With bicycling babies, hip swinging samba and a mooning mayor, get set for the City Mojo film festival!
Perth Bike Hub in partnership with the City of Perth present City Mojo, a celluloid celebration of strong cities, community spirit and the humble bicycle.
Running over four Wednesday evenings in March at the Northbridge Piazza, City Mojo will screen quality short films and thought provoking documentaries from around the world. This is a free film event for the whole community.
-Latino Loco, Wednesday 1 March, 7pm
From street fiestas, traffic cop mimes and two maverick mayors, City Mojo kicks off with a magnifico line-up of Latin American and Spanish language films.
Main movie: Bogota Change (Colombia/Denmark) – The inspiring true story of how two city mayors transformed the Colombian capital from one of the most violent cities on earth to one that puts social equity and human happiness at its heart. Watch the trailer.
-Wonder Women – Wednesday 8 March, 7pm
Celebrate International Women’s Day with this collection of female-focused short films about bold leaders, urban living and roller derby.
Main movie: Mama Agatha (Netherlands) - A heart-warming tale of a Ghanaian immigrant who helps refugee women grow their confidence when they learn to ride bicycles. Watch the trailer.
-Community Chest – Wednesday 15 March, 7pm
Feel the warm fuzzy vibes with this eclectic offering of short films about friends, family, neighbours and community spirit.
Main movie: Life Cycle (Australia/India) - Outdated contraption or vital mobility tool? A timely exploration of the role of bicycles in the lives of city dwellers in modern-day Kolkata, India. Watch the trailer.
-Urban Star - Wednesday 22 March, 7pm
Closing night party with Bike Dr and market stalls
From Melbourne’s laneway culture to the global parklet trend, this collection of short films celebrates the vitality, energy and joy of urban life. The closing night celebration will also host market stalls, free bike servicing courtesy of Bike Dr and valet bicycle parking.
Main movie: Bike City, Great City (Canada) – Why are some cities wonderful for bike riding while other places just suck? Is the city for people or for cars? This Canadian doco looks at how creating space for cycling makes cities better for everyone. Watch the trailer.
