2017 sees the Festival create a hub of activity at the State Theatre Centre of WA. Located at the corner of Roe and William Streets in Northbridge, the iconic landmark’s indoor and outdoor spaces will be utilised, transforming the venue into a jam-packed comedy destination over the four-week period.

The Perth Comedy Festival Gala will take place at Subiaco’s Regal Theatre on Wednesday 3 May. The perfect stand-up sampler, the Perth Comedy Festival Gala is ever-popular with tickets selling out in record time as the evening presents the unique chance to see emerging and established comedians on the one bill.

Dubbed “the outright king of live comedy” by The Times, Irishman Jason Byrne is the biggest selling comedian at the Edinburg Fringe Festival and promises to leave audiences in stitches with his original brand of high-energy intelligent lunacy. Fellow Irishman David O’Doherty also joins in on the Festival fun; a comedian, flanneur and 1990 East Leinster under 14 triple jump bronze medallist, O’Doherty is the force de jour in musical comedy. One of England’s most beloved comedians, Stephen K Amos will charm and entertain audiences with his natural, assured delivery of honest and original material and those hungry for hilarious nonsense will whet their appetite with UK funny man Paul Foot; a surrealist, a scholar, a madman, a genius and a self-described “overnight success 17 years later.”

Then there’s the young guns of the festival; UK funny woman Sarah Callaghan who, at just 25 years young, will please audiences with her beautifully honest and infectiously upfront style, 26 year old Scottish stand-up Daniel Sloss who is easily one of the UK’s fastest rising comedy stars and twenty-something Glaswegian Larry Dean who will have audiences lapping up his cheeky-chappie schtick. Searingly funny Irish-American Des Bishop’s fast paced, witty humour is a sure fire winner, worth seeing even if you aren’t Irish or American. Germany’s Anne Klinge has made headlines with a recent appearance on Britain’s Got Talent and brings left-of-centre puppetry to the festival. Her “foot theatre” is guaranteed to make you laugh your socks off and her extensive repertoire includes operas and children’s shows. South African born, NZ residing, Urzila Carlson’s naturally cheeky, straight up style of humour will have audiences eating out of her hand.

Then there’s a stack of world-class Australian stand-up comedians the Festival is proud to present rounding out the bill. Multi talented comedian and current co host of Triple J Breakfast, Matt Okine, began his career at the tender age of 18 – as a finalist in the national Triple J RAW comedy festival. Since then he’s had a stream of accolades including the prestigious Director’s Choice Award at the 2015 Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the 2015 ARIA Award for Best Comedy Release. Aussie funny man Nick Cody has played to packed houses around the world on his solo stand-up tours and appeared on US late night TV ‘CONAN’ as well as being handpicked to support international superstars such as Jim Jefferies, Bill Burr and Anthony Jeselnik. Audiences will laugh out loud at the surreal, fast paced, alternative sketch comedy of Youtube-famous, Melbourne trio, Aunty Donna, enjoy the no-nonsense one liners delivered in a dry, deadpan manner with Luke Heggie and catch one of the most exciting new voices on the Aussie comedy scene, Becky Lucas.
