From rally cars to explosive science shows - there is plenty of FREE activities in the City this weekend for the whole family.

1. QUIT TARGA WEST Rally - Thursday 10 August, Friday 11 August & Sunday 13 August 


THURSDAY 10 AUGUST 11am - 1.30pm TARGA West Ceremonial Start

Forrest Place, Perth City

Come along to the exciting Ceremonial Start and Car Display for Quit Targa West in Forrest Place during your lunch break on Thursday. Quit Targa West will be transforming the Perth city centre into a car enthusiast’s paradise with a number of car related events, including three rally stages in the heart of Perth’s CBD.


FRIDAY 11 AUGUST 6pm - 9pm Northbridge Show ‘n’ Shine

James & Lake Streets, Northbridge

Come along and enjoy the party atmosphere... a great night for the family to get up close with the rally cars and drivers. 


SUNDAY 13 AUGUST 9am - 4pm TARGA WEST City Sprint, Rally Stages and Car Display

Be thrilled by the  2017 Targa City Sprint (9am - 12:30pm) where a large collection of vintage and classic vehicles will take on the 1.95km speed event course set-up on Riverside Drive, Governors Ave and Terrace Road.

Shannons Classics in the Park is on from 10am-3:30pm and allows you to get up and close to the cars at Langley Park.

From 1pm until 3:30pm, join TARGA  West for the grand finale of the City of Perth Super Special Stage on Riverside Drive and Governors Ave.

This will then be followed by the Podium Finish at 3:30pm under the Arch on Victoria Street.

2. Perth Science Festival - Saturday 12 August & Sunday 13 August 

The 2017 Perth Science Festival kicks off National Science Week with a bang this wqeekend! Get down to the FREE Perth Science Festival at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre for over 40 interactive stalls, explosive science shows, native animals the list goes on!

3. As We Are Art Awards - Saturday 12 August  

The As We Are Art Award showcases the artwork of Western Australian artists who have an intellectual disability and 2017 marks the 15th anniversary year of this prestigious award!

As We Are provides a platform for participating artists to showcase their talent, express their creativity, compete for prestigious awards and exhibit and sell their work. For some within this artistic group, art is one of the few opportunities they have to communicate - this is their voice, their chance to be heard.

Visit the Central Park Building Foyer (152-158 St George’s Terrace, Perth) from 10am - 4pm to view the artwork.

4. RTRFM Radiothon Party - Saturday 12 August 

In celebration of RTRFM’s annual subscriber drive Radiothon, they're throwing a killer party featuring 20 acts spread across four venues: The Bird, Ezra Pound, the State Theatre Centre Foyer & Studio Underground and Tetsuo.

5. Perth Poetry Festival - Saturday 12 August & Sunday 13 August 

The 2017 Perth Poetry Festival kicks off on Saturday 12 August at 7pm at the Northbridge Piazza. 

The 2017 Perth Poetry Festival is a celebration of spoken word and features eight invited guest poets: two international, two national, two local established and two local emerging. Events include poetry performances, panel discussions and workshops. Events are mainly ticketed but there are also free events included in the program. Where possible, open microphone slots are included.

6. Making a Splash - Sunday 13 August 

Between 11am and 3pm this Sunday, bring your favourite gumboots to Forrest Place for two crafty days in August for 'Making a Splash' in the City.

With two designs to choose from, your gumboots will be ready to splash through Forrest Place and embrace the winter weather.

Gumboot cookies will also be available to decorate for those feeling a little peckish*^.

If you register early enough you may be able to secure the opportunity to customise your very own umbrella^ with waterproof fabric markers, stencils and fabric spray to help keep you dry.

Registrations will be taken on the day of the event only.

* This activity may not be suitable for children with allergies   ^ Limited number of items per session. Please register on the day with staff to secure your opportunity.
